Translation pairwork

Pupils work in pairs. Give them a text to translate on the sheet individually to start with, then they swap for their partner to check (in their opinion). Their partner colours in the box at the bottom of the sheet for each error they think their partner has made. Encourages discussion.

Ski slope starter template

As pupils go down the slope, they start with a sentence starter and make the sentence longer and longer as they go, by adding opinions, justification, examples, etc.

Sentence auction template

Say Something random chooser

This is a random image selector. Whatever the picture is and the symbol at the bottom of the slide, pupils must take it in turns to say something – a question about the picture, an exclamation, a positive, a negative, something in the future and something in the past.

Random peer testing template

Give the pupils phrases in the target language or in English. They mill around the room, testing random pupils in the class. If the pupils they ask get the answer right, they write their name in one of the boxes underneath the phrase.

Raise your hand template

This is the ideal way to get pupils moving and to wake them up! Paste an image in the middle, give an option of the picture description in the target language on the left and on the right. Pupils raise the hand to show the correct option.

Fading texts template
